Town
& Country Company History
Town & Country Limited began as Mossman CANEGROWERS Co-operative
society back in 1957, for many years trading in mostly hardware
from a small wooden building down on Mill Street. The Co-op
had shareholders, which were and still are to this day local
cane farmers and their descendants.
In the early ’80s the Co-op purchased the building
where it is currently situated. They changed their name to
Town & Country Store and became an unlisted public company.
In the building they traded with a supermarket and in ’96
the business was moved to the new premises of Town & Country
Limited Shopping Centre. The supermarket was subsequently
sold to Woolworths Queensland in ’98, enabling the hardware
store to increase in size as it stands today.
